2008 Northeast Texas National Day of Prayer

The Northeast Texas Regional National Day of Prayer has convened at the Prayer Tower in Pittsburg TX since 2004. We take four days to observe the event because we read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation in one continuous reading. It takes over three hundred people from the surrounding areas coming to read the Bible in sequence in 15-minute increments. In the lovely garden of the privately owned Prayer Tower before a beautiful reflection pond readers come to simply read from a quiet microphone the wondrous Word of God. Whether it is at the time of the freshness of the morning or at the still, quiet, star-filled night, the Word continues on without commentary, without any interruption, and without seams; it is passed from one individual to another without comment. And the language may be English or maybe Spanish, and sometimes an ancient language such as Hebrew or Greek. But through sunlight and through rain, with many people attending or simply two or three the Word goes on and on until it is completed. We stand as a People, listening and expectant. And we are rewarded with God’s Mighty Presence and His Peace.

We welcome you to participate and to be a part of the blessing. Once you have signed up on this form you will be asked to attend a meeting at Pittsburg so that we can go over all the details of how the event takes place. We want you to be comfortable and confident as you read. You may read in whatever language is sacred to you.

On the day of your reading you are asked to arrive about 10 minutes before your time begins. You will find there are plenty of off the street parking spaces up near the Community Center. A bathroom is also located at the Community Center. At the Tower there will be two lecterns with ample lighting and two microphones. When the person signed up before you has concluded his or her time commitment, they will continue reading to the end of the chapter of the book they have begun, silently indicating to you where to begin.
